The Twelve Apostles Concetration

This fun game is a great way to help kids learn about Jesus' disciples.
  • Allow each child to color and cut out the concentration cards from the pattern.
  • To reinforce the cards, you can help the kids glue the cards onto a thick paper or cardstock.
  • Let the children color and decorate the game envelope found at the end of the pattern.
  • Help the children fold and glue the envelope together.
Now each child has their own concentration game they can take home and play.

Materials Needed: pattern, cardstock or thick paper, glue, scissors, crayons

John 3:16 - Gift of Christ Craft

This craft can be adapted for many lessons. We used it while discussing the disciple John and sharing God's gift of love.

Have the kids decorate and color the pattern. Remind them that the backside of the pattern will also show, so they should also decorate it. After decorating the pattern have them cut out the cross on the solid lines. Have the kids fold the pattern on the dotted lines to create a box. Younger children may need help with this. There many different ways to keep your box together. You can tie ribbon around it to keep the sides together or use painter's tape and tape the sides together (I did the latter). Once the box is assembled, give each child a bow to stick on top of their box.

Now each child can give their present to someone to tell them the gift of God's love.
Materials Needed: Pattern (one per child), crayons, scissors, bows, ribbon or painters tape.

1 Timothy 4:12 Youthful Hand Reminder Craft

After discussing the verse "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity," continue reading 1 Timothy 4:12-15. The instructions given can summarized into five S's:
  1. Standard
  2. Study
  3. Stir up spirit
  4. Soak in word
  5. Stick to it
Discuss with the kids how they can follow the five S's to help them grow in their Christian walk and how even the youth of the church can be an example of Christ in the world.

Following the lesson, have the children trace their hand on bright cardstock or construction paper and cut it out. Younger kids made need help tracing and cutting. Have them cut out the five S's and glue one S's on to one of the fingers. Cut out the verse and glue it to the palm of the hand. Take a piece of ribbon and tie it around one of the fingers of their craft. Stick a piece of magnet strip to the back of the hand. Each child now has a magnet to help remind them to follow the five S's and be and example for Christ.
Materials Needed: cardstock/ construction paper, glue, scissors, ribbon (about 4 inches per child), sticky magnet strips (at least one inch per child), craft pattern.

Learning the Books of the New Testament

Two fun activities to help kids learn the books of the New Testament.

You can play the game like concentration. Lay the cards facedown and into two separate sections. One half having all of the books of the Bible cards and the other having the trivia cards. Allow the kids to flip over a card from each section and try to match the book with the trivia fact. You can adapt the game to fit the age levels of your class. For older children, I recommend playing like normal concentration. For younger groups, you can have them flip over one card from either the book section or trivia section and then take turns flipping over cards from the opposite section until they find the match. Once the kids have found all of the matches, they can work together to put the books in order.
